rem
rem is an exploration game about dream waves, in which you guide a nameless protagonist through the different dream stages. However, instead of using a controller, you use your eyes to navigate, solve puzzles, or fight off monsters.
The point of relief and restoration while we sleep begins when we enter the REM (rapid eye movement) phase. To get there we have to pass three Non-REM phases first. Our brain waves differ at each stage of sleep. During the deepest phase, these waves nearly vanish.
While we sleep, we work through what we experienced during the day. We create distorted images and realms of our own imagination.
rem was created at the 5th Global Game Jam, organized by the Gamelab Karlsruhe. It uses Tobii eye-tracking software and is inspired by the work of Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt (both were diversifiers of the 5th GGJ).
