Visible Language
‘What is language? How do we perceive it, how does language create images? If we try to understand language as a material (or image material), it may invite us to play.’
This is how Tine Melzer writes about her seminar ‘Visible Language’. Every participant was assigned a color, which was given a name by every other participant. With this information, she gave the assignment to design something visual, using the information and the color as language.
Green was declared a something gritty, armor like, soft, natural but diseased, military, plant and mud like, male and female. Photographs were created, showing a girl in this color scheme, by designing her body and uniform in the color and language code.
For the presentation of the individual projects a poster was created, displaying the dimensions of language in a symbolic way.
